When assessing wheat yield before harvest, a trial plot counting method is used, taking into account the number of productive stems per 0,25 m², the average number of grains per spike, and the thousand-kernel weight in grams. Actual harvested yield must be converted to a base moisture content of 14% to ensure data comparability.

Modern intensive technologies allow for yield indicators of 10–12 t/ha and higher, although production results often account for 50–70% of the potential identified in competitive variety trials. Wheat yield is closely correlated with grain quality characteristics, such as protein content, gluten, test weight, and vitreousness, which requires a balance when managing productivity.
