The plant forms a dense crown of columnar or pyramidal shape, reaching a height from 50 cm to 1.5 m. The branches are ribbed, with the presence of thorns. The spring color of the leaves is raspberry or pale pink, in the summer period they become bright red or purple, and in autumn they acquire burgundy or orange shades.
Flowering occurs in May with small yellow flowers, after which red oblong berries ripen. The variety is photophilous, drought-tolerant, and undemanding to soil composition provided there is drainage. It possesses high winter hardiness (USDA zones 4) and resistance to diseases and pests, and tolerates pruning well.
It is used in landscape design for creating hedges, borders, mixed borders, topiary forms, and is also suitable for growing in containers.
