The shrub has a dense, vertical crown, reaching a height of 0.6 to 1.5 meters with a width of 0.4–0.6 meters. The leaves are small, oval or lanceolate in shape; when budding, they are bright red or purple-red in color, and in autumn they acquire saturated red shades.
Flowering occurs in May with small yellow or yellow-red flowers. In the autumn period, bright red berries form on the branches. The variety possesses resistance to powdery mildew, drought, and air pollution, and tolerates pruning well.
The plant is used in landscape design for forming hedges, solitary compositions, container gardening, as well as in rock gardens and rockeries.
