The shrub forms a dense crown that becomes rounded with age. The height of the plant varies from 0.4–0.5 m to 1.2–1.5 m. The branches are thorny, with straight vertical shoots having a bright red or dark orange hue.
The leaves are large, rounded, and change color from orange-red to dark burgundy with a characteristic yellow margin along the edge. Flowering occurs in May-June with small yellow flowers. The fruits are decorative glossy red berries that ripen in August-September and remain on the branches until winter.
The variety is frost-hardy (hardiness zone 5a/5b), drought-tolerant, and adapts well to urban conditions. The plant tolerates pruning and is used in solitary and group plantings, for creating hedges and for container gardening.
