The plant reaches a height of 4–6 meters with a crown width of 3–5 meters. The crown is spreading, of a broadly ovate or flattened-spherical shape. The leaves are dark green, broadly ovate, 10–14 cm long, with slight pubescence on the underside. Flowering occurs in May with solitary white or pale pink flowers 4–6 cm in diameter.

The fruits are apple-shaped or pear-shaped, turn golden-yellow upon full maturity, and are covered with a felt-like bloom. Ripening occurs in autumn; harvesting is often carried out in late October. The fruit flesh has a strong aroma; it is firm and astringent when raw, therefore requiring culinary processing for the preparation of jams, jellies, compotes, or distillates.
