Graue Renette is a collective name for a number of heirloom apple varieties distinguished by netted russet skin. In literature, two historical varieties are most often considered under this name: French Grey Reinette and Graue Herbstrenette. In addition, the name is sometimes erroneously, or due to regional specificities, applied to the Zabergau Reinette variety.

French Grey Reinette is a vigorous tree with a winter fruit consumption period. The fruits are flat-globular, covered with grey-brown russet, and have greenish-yellow juicy flesh with a spicy flavor. The variety is characterized by high yield, prone to biennial bearing, and medium resistance to scab and canker.

Graue Herbstrenette matures in late September or early October and is distinguished by irregularly ribbed fruits covered with grey-brown russet. The fruits of this variety are prone to rapid shriveling during storage. The Zabergau Reinette variety, which is also sometimes associated with this group, is characterized by very large fruits and good disease resistance.
