The variety has an undetermined origin, presumably linked to Italy or Holland, from where it was introduced to Denmark in the 17th century. The tree is characterized by vigorous growth and forms a large, widely spreading crown. The fruit ripening period occurs from late August to mid-September.

Fruits are medium to large in size, often having an irregular, slightly ribbed shape. The skin is smooth, turning yellow with reddish stripes upon ripening. The flesh is yellowish, very juicy and tender, with a characteristic strong aroma. The fruits are sensitive to mechanical damage and have poor keeping quality.

The variety is susceptible to scab, powdery mildew, and apple tree canker, and also has a tendency for fruit drop. It is used both for fresh consumption and for various types of processing, including the production of juices, purees, and alcoholic beverages.
