The Ox Apple variety, also known by the synonyms Herrenapfel, Monstrous Pippin, Pfundapfel, Ruhm der Welt, and Stiefmütterchen, is a traditional variety that developed without directed breeding. Historically, the fruits of this variety were used in cooking, although when fully ripe they were also suitable for fresh consumption.

The apple fruits are distinguished by their very large size and rounded, sometimes angular shape. A characteristic feature of the variety is its low productivity and the tendency of the fruits to drop from the branches due to their significant weight. The trees are traditionally grown in meadow orchard systems on high stems.
