The variety is a hybrid bred at the East Malling Research Station. It belongs to early varieties intended for fresh consumption.

The fruits have a characteristic russet-type coloration with an orange blush. The flavor qualities are described as intense, sweet-and-sour, with characteristics close to the Nonpareil group.

The tree is self-infertile and requires the presence of pollinator varieties. The variety demonstrates good yield, as well as resistance to powdery mildew and scab.
