The B.118 rootstock was obtained by crossing the Moskovskaya Grushovka variety with a pollen mixture of M.8 and M.9 varieties. Trees on this rootstock reach 75–90% of the size of a tree on a seedling rootstock, and their height can range from 4.5 to 6 meters or more.
It is characterized by very high winter hardiness and good anchorage, which ensures tree stability without additional support. It possesses moderate resistance to fire blight and collar rot, while being susceptible to Phytophthora.
The rootstock propagates easily by layering in stool beds and does not produce abundant root suckers. It adapts well to various soil types, although it may develop more weakly in hot and dry areas. It enters fruiting earlier than seedling rootstocks, but later than dwarfing ones.
