The B.491 rootstock is used in fruit growing as a base for grafting apple trees and is not intended for independent fruit production. In terms of vigor, it belongs to the dwarf types and its effect on the scion is comparable to the M.27 rootstock.
The plant is characterized by winter hardiness and the ability to promote increased calcium accumulation in the leaves and fruits of grafted trees. The rootstock propagates well vegetatively, and studies on its resistance to fire blight have been conducted.
