The tree has a broad-conical crown that becomes spreading with age. The leaves have a purple hue when budding, acquire a bronze-green color in summer, and turn orange-red or brick-colored in autumn.
Flowering occurs in May–June. The flowers are large, up to 4 cm, deep purple at first, then fading to pink or white. The fruits are 1.5–3 cm in diameter and have a dark red or purple color. The taste of the fruits is bitter or spicy; the main purpose of the variety is decorative garden design.
The variety is characterized by high resistance to scab and winter hardiness in USDA zones 3–7. It is a hybrid of M. 'Evereste' x M. pumila 'Niedzwetzkyana'.
