The tree is characterized by vigorous growth and reaches a height of 6 to 8 meters, forming an open, rounded crown. When budding, the leaves have a silvery-pubescent appearance, later acquiring a bronze-red or purple-brown shade, and in summer — dark green.
Flowers are simple, dark pink or purple-red with a fragrance; flowering occurs in April. Fruits are small, about 2 cm in diameter, beet-burgundy or dark purple in color. The variety is winter hardy (USDA zone 4) and is used in landscape design, however, it is prone to scab and pest infestation.
