The Boube variety belongs to the category of traditional local olive varieties that originated as a result of folk selection. It is genetically identical to a number of other varieties, including Giarraffa, Bella di Spagna, Pizzo di Corvo, Santa Caterina, Grosse du Hamma, Ters Yaprak, and Tavsan Yuregi.

The variety is included in the list of varieties authorized for olive oil production within certain French protected designations of origin, such as Huile d'olive de Haute-Provence. It is considered a valuable genetic resource that has participated in the formation of the region's varietal diversity.
