Variety description

10 August 2026

Brava Gallega is a relict variety that was identified during scientific research on the restoration of the genetic heritage of Galician olive farming. The plant is adapted to the local conditions of northwestern Spain.

The fruits have an average weight, a slightly elongated shape, symmetrical or slightly asymmetrical, with a rounded apex and no protrusion at the end. Upon ripening, the olives turn black, with small numerous lenticels visible on the skin. The leaves are narrow, slightly elongated, with a flat longitudinal curvature of the blade.

The variety belongs to late-ripening ones: the harvest takes place in the period from the end of October to December. The produce is used to obtain olive oil, which is distinguished by an intense fruity taste with pronounced bitterness and pungency, as well as a specific composition of phenolic compounds.
