The Buža variety, also known by the synonyms Buga, Burgaca, Morgaca, Domaća and Gura, is an old local variety of the Istria region. The tree possesses strong, vigorous growth and a dense crown, which becomes rounded with regular pruning. The leaves are of medium size and elliptic-lanceolate in shape.

The fruits are medium or large, oval, slightly asymmetrical, and turn dark upon ripening. The variety is characterized by regular bearing. It is sensitive to infestation by the olive fruit fly, olive moth, scale insects, sooty mold and peacock spot, as well as to early autumn frosts.

An oil variety, the oil from which is of high quality. The taste of the produce varies from fresh and piquant when harvesting yellowish fruits to sweet and mild when harvesting dark fruits. It is often used in blends to improve flavor characteristics and for pollination.
