The variety «Briscola» (sometimes referred to as «Briscola 2») was bred by gamma-ray irradiation of the starting material — the variety «Ascolana tenera». One of the main characteristics is the compact growth habit (dwarfing habit).

The plant has ornamental value. It is often found under the commercial names «Olea briscola» or «Mediterranean Midget» as a dwarf form of olive, while it may be low-yielding or non-fruiting at all.
