The variety is native to the northeastern part of Sicily, particularly in the vicinity of the town of Randazzo. It is classified as a minor variety and is included in the Ark of Taste registry as an object of biodiversity conservation.
The tree is characterized by narrow leaves, and the fruits have an oblong shape. It is cultivated traditionally on volcanic soils under organic farming conditions.
The variety is used primarily for the production of extra virgin olive oil, which has a refined taste with possible spicy notes. It is used both to create a monovarietal product and in blends with other local varieties, for example, Nocellara Etnea. It is included in the list of varieties permitted for the production of oil with the Monte Etna protected designation of origin.
