The BORGIONA variety is traditional for the Italian region of Umbria and for a long time was considered almost forgotten. Currently, the variety is attracting interest due to the quality of the olive oil produced, which possesses pronounced fruitiness with notes of bitterness and spice.
The plant exhibits pronounced growth vigor and the ability to withstand frost conditions. The yield of the variety is described as sporadic. Modern research is studying the suitability of the olive for high-density planting and the possibility of utilizing mechanized harvesting.
Genetic identification of the variety is difficult due to its similarity to a number of other local varieties, which requires the use of specialized DNA analysis methods for the accurate determination of variety affiliation.
