The Boga variety, also known as Buga, is local to the Istria region. Genetic studies confirm the existence of several genotypes within this variety. In official sources, it appears under a number of synonyms such as Bugi, Bugla, Burla, Buso di Pirano, Buža, Piranska Buga, and Briška Črnica.
The mature plant has a dense canopy and weak to medium vigor, with slowed growth in the first years after planting. The fruit is characterized by early color development, medium size, and a high flesh-to-pit ratio. Harvest ripening occurs very early and is noted for being uneven.
