The variety originates from the area of Prata in the province of Livorno, Tuscany. It is a subject of genetic research and is included in the olive germplasm database, although detailed morphological descriptions of the tree are practically absent in open publications.

Oil from this variety was studied as part of an analysis of sensory properties and volatile aromatic compounds of Tuscan monovarietal oils. The variety should be distinguished from the widespread Lazzero variety, with which it may have genetic kinship, but it is considered in publications as a separate local accession.
