The variety is traditional for the Terra Alta region in Catalonia. Genetically, it is considered the result of a cross between the Tunisian variety Toffehi Tataouine and the Andalusian variety Gordal Sevillana. In scientific literature, the variety is also identified as Manzanal de Ráfales.

The fruits of the variety are suitable for both table consumption and olive oil production. Detailed data on growth characteristics, disease resistance, and specific organoleptic properties of the products are not currently presented in open publications.
