The Merlina variety, also known by the names Mortina or Mortegna, is a traditional cultivar for the Italian region of Liguria, in particular for the province of Savona and the Genoa area. It is a "small and delicate" variety, adapted to the difficult conditions of the local landscape and cultivation on terraces.
The primary purpose of the variety is olive oil production. In specialized databases, the variety appears as one of the local cultivars of the region used in the production of single-varietal oils alongside the Taggiasca variety. Detailed agronomic characteristics of the plant are absent in open sources.
