The variety is a local landrace adapted to the conditions of the slopes of Mount Etna and is traditionally grafted onto wild turpentine tree rootstocks. It is a long-lived plant capable of growing in rocky soils due to a powerful root system.

The fruits are oblong or oval in shape, distinguished by the emerald green color of the cotyledons and a rich aroma. The seed composition shows an increased proportion of oils and chlorophyll.

The plant has a biennial bearing cycle with alternating productive and unproductive years. Harvesting takes place in late August — early September. The crop is drought-tolerant and does not require significant irrigation.
