ActivePistacia vera L. · Pistachio
The Regents of the University of California
10 August 2026
The variety is a male plant intended exclusively for the pollination of female pistachio varieties. Due to its biological characteristics, the tree does not produce a nut crop.
The main characteristic of the variety is the phenological synchronization of flowering with female varieties such as Aegina, Mateur, or Larnaka. Pollination efficiency depends on the intensity of pollen production and the overlap of flowering periods with selected female specimens.
The plant requires careful selection of rootstock, such as Pistacia terebinthus or the UCB-1 hybrid, which ensures adaptation to arid conditions and resistance to soil-borne pathogens such as Verticillium wilt.
