The Chico Male cultivar is a male tree that does not produce fruit and is used exclusively for pollination. Its flowering period begins 1–2 weeks earlier than that of the common Kerman cultivar, making it suitable for pollinating the Sfax and Red Aleppo cultivars.

The origin of the cultivar is linked to a seedling grown from Syrian seeds. There are scientific hypotheses, based on morphological traits, that this form may be a hybrid of Pistacia vera L. and Pistacia integerrima L. Due to labeling errors of samples and the possibility of confusion with cultivars of other crops bearing the same name, verification of the plant species is required in professional practice.
