The variety is a chance seedling, also known under the names Bigarreau Sandrin and Souvenir des Charmes. The tree is characterized by vigorous growth and can reach significant height depending on growing conditions and rootstock.

The fruits are large, heart-shaped, and acquire a dark red, almost black color upon full ripening. The flesh is firm and juicy, possessing a sweet taste. The variety is characterized as winter-hardy, however, it is self-incompatible and requires pollinators.

Harvesting occurs from the end of May to the beginning of June. The yield of the variety is described as high, but can sometimes be irregular.
