The Lotova variety (known as Schattenmorelle or Large Lotova) is a very old Prunus cerasus variety traditionally attributed to German breeding. The tree has medium vigor; branches are often characterized by a weeping habit.
The fruits are large, turning dark red, almost black, upon full maturity. The flesh is juicy and acidic, possessing a strong aroma. Due to the intensely colored juice, the variety is widely used in industrial processing for the production of juices, syrups, and jams.
The variety is self-fertile and is characterized by regular yield and good adaptability to various climatic conditions, including cold climates.
