Løvskal is not an independent breeding variety, but a local clone (landrace) of Prunus cerasus. Due to the lack of morphological differences, its characteristics are combined with the Stevnsbær variety. The plant forms medium to vigorous trees with a pyramidal crown and drooping shoots in older specimens.
The fruits are small, dark red in color with dark-colored flesh that separates well from the pit. The variety is characterized by late maturity and high yield. The fruits detach easily from the stem, which allows for mechanized harvesting. The trees are tolerant to soil types, have medium resistance to Pseudomonas syringae, and high resistance to Monilinia.
Traditionally, this type of cherry is used for the production of juices, jams, and wines due to its intense pigmentation and high content of juice and acids.
