The name "Morel" is not a single unique variety, but acts as a collective name for a number of sour cherry varieties historically associated with Dutch or French origin. This group includes various clones and breeding achievements, such as "Morel Bryanskaya" or "Rheinische Schattenmorelle".
Plants of this group are usually dwarf or semi-dwarf trees 2 to 4 meters tall. Varieties more often belong to mid-late or late maturity groups. The fruits are distinguished by their dark red, almost black color, sweet-and-sour taste, and the presence of pigmented juice.
Cherries of this group have universal use, suitable for fresh consumption, preparation of desserts, juices, and canning. The varieties are characterized by being undemanding, good winter hardiness, and resistance to diseases.
