Kamenjara is a local landrace variety that was not developed through breeding. The name of the variety is descriptive and indicates that the crop grows on stony soils.

This genotype was studied as part of research into genetic diversity and resistance to viruses, in particular to Plum pox virus, where the variety showed no signs of infection. In the region, it is historically used for the preparation of traditional alcoholic beverages.
