The rootstock is a hybrid involving Prunus avium, Prunus cerasus and Prunus fruticosa. The plant is characterized by weak vigor and a tendency to produce abundant root suckers.

Trees grafted onto this rootstock are distinguished by high precocity. The use of Clare facilitates the acceleration of fruit ripening of the scion by approximately one week.
