The C.359 rootstock is characterized by vigorous growth of trees grafted onto it, which feature early entry into bearing and high yield. It reduces the susceptibility of grafted varieties to apoplexy, although it may show sensitivity to Verticillium wilt and late spring frosts.

The plant adapts well to various soil types, including areas with excessive moisture and temporary flooding, but does not tolerate dry and stony conditions well. The rootstock is suitable for vegetative propagation by cuttings, which allows for maintaining genetic uniformity of plantations.
