The rootstock was bred in Hungary as a result of selection of local forms and wild species. It is well adapted to heavy soils, however, it shows sensitivity to sites with high lime content exceeding 7%.

The name of this rootstock in catalogs often leads to confusion with other meanings of the word 'cepe', such as porcini mushroom or bulb onion, however, in agronomic studies this term is unambiguously identified as a rootstock for peach.
