The variety is a traditional regional variety of Portugal, known by the synonyms Lambe-os-Dedos and Amorim Preto. Its conservation and study are conducted by the National Institute for Agricultural and Veterinary Research of Portugal.
The fruits are characterized by a high sugar content (over 14 °Brix) and a high level of antioxidant activity. The variety is considered a promising raw material for the production of natural sweeteners and products with a high dietary fiber content.
