The Andenken an den Congress pear, also known by its French name Souvenir du Congrès or the Polish name Kongresówka, was bred in France around 1857. In historical pomological literature, the fruits of the variety are often compared to the Clapp’s Favorite and Bartlett varieties, while it is noted that it may be inferior to these varieties in a number of fruit characteristics.

The variety belongs to traditional garden pears that were part of the widespread assortment in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Detailed agrotechnical characteristics, such as plant height, disease resistance, or crown type, are absent in available sources, and information about the variety is limited to descriptions from historical pomological reviews.
