The variety is a traditional regional cultivar formed through years of empirical selection by farmers in Portugal. Currently, it is included in the national variety catalog, and its conservation and study are being conducted at the Vieira Natividade National Fruit Research Station.
The fruits of this variety are characterized by a high sugar content, exceeding 14 ºBrix. Current scientific research is focused on evaluating organoleptic properties and studying the bioactive composition, including antioxidant capacity and phenolic compound levels.
