The variety is a synonym for Beurre Gris, also known as Beurre d’Isambert or Brown Beurre, and has been known since 1650. The fruits are large, juicy, and in favorable years have an excellent taste with a characteristic liveliness of the flesh.
Fruit quality is highly variable: in unfavorable seasons they can be acidic, with minimal aroma and a tendency to crack. In unfavorable years, the trees of the variety may shed their leaves prematurely.
