The variety is also known by the names Belle Epine du Mas, Epine du Mas, Epine de Rochechouart and Colmar du Lot. The tree is characterized as a robust and reliable crop, which is often grown in trained forms, such as espaliers and palmettes.

The fruits of this variety are of medium size and pyriform shape. During cultivation, high sensitivity to brown leaf spot, caused by the fungus Stemphylium vesicarium, has been identified.

The variety shows poor compatibility with quince rootstock when grafted directly, which is why the use of an intermediate rootstock in the form of an intercalary insert is often required for successful cultivation.
