The variety Holländische Butterbirne is mentioned in pomological literature from the end of the 18th century and has many historical synonyms, such as Beurre de Hollande, Calebasse, Flaschenkürbisbirne, Fürstliche Tafelbirne, Grosse Sommerzapfenbirne, Mausebirne, and Rosanne.
