The variety has a disputed or unknown origin and belongs to Estonian folk varieties. Currently, it is maintained in the fruit crop genetic resources collection at the Polli Horticultural Research Centre. The variety was used by breeders as one of the parental components for the development of the Polli punane variety.
The fruits possess an attractive red color and red flesh, which is rare for pears. The taste is sweet with a slight tartness. The plant is characterized by sufficient winter hardiness and relative resistance to diseases. It is practically not used in commercial fruit growing, representing value as a historical genetic resource.
