The Inca Dawn variety, also known as DB375/1, is a diploid form of potato obtained as a result of a breeding program for adapting South American species of the Phureja group to the conditions of Great Britain. The plant possesses unique biochemical properties, in particular a high level of zeaxanthin and carotenoids in the flesh.
The tubers of the variety have an oval-elongated shape and are distinguished by a rich yellow flesh color. Culinary qualities are characterized by a pronounced “umami” taste. Due to its diploid genetic status, the variety has a lower yield compared to modern tetraploid varieties and is intended primarily for research purposes and specialized use.
The variety is listed in the national registry — its seeds are authorized for sale in this country.
