The potato variety Kirsty was bred by the Scottish Crop Research Institute (SCRI). This variety is mentioned in the institute's archival reports and the British Potato Council's technical documents as a variety that underwent scientific testing.

As part of the studies, the variety was evaluated for resistance to tuber blemish diseases. Detailed agronomic characteristics, including maturity group and morphological parameters of the plant, are absent from open sources.
