The variety Binova is a hybrid of the species Vitis berlandieri and Vitis riparia. It is genetically derived from the SO4 rootstock, however, unlike it, it possesses hermaphroditic flowers.

The variety possesses high tolerance to calcareous soils and resistance to the root form of phylloxera. It is characterized by good vigor, high wood ripening capacity, and excellent compatibility with Vitis vinifera varieties.

The tip of the young shoot has a weak or medium degree of pubescence. The variety is intended for use as a rootstock, promoting the development of the scion and the early ripening of its vine.
