Variety description

The variety is exclusively a rootstock and is intended for the protection of cultivated grape varieties against root phylloxera. The growing season is about 180 days; the variety belongs to the late-maturing group. The bushes are characterized by very high vigor with powerful shoots 3.5–5 meters long. The leaves are large, nearly round, three-lobed, dense and leathery, and dark green in color. The flower is functionally female. The clusters are small, loose, and cylindrical-conical; the berries are small, black, with a bluish tint.

The variety has high winter hardiness of the buds down to -30 °C and the roots down to -8...-9 °C. Resistance to fungal diseases and the root form of phylloxera is high; resistance to the leaf form of phylloxera is medium. The root system is deep and powerful, which ensures good fixation in the soil. The variety tolerates carbonate content in the soil up to 20–35% and provides good graft compatibility with most cultivated varieties; however, on fertile soils, it may exhibit excessive vigor.
