The variety is a wine grape of the Vitis vinifera L. species. The parent forms are Carignan and Alicante Bouschet. The letter N in the name indicates the black color of the berry skin.

The variety is intended for industrial use and is utilized for the production of high-quality grape juice. Within the framework of breeding and research programs, the variety was studied for its reaction to diseases, in particular, grapevine yellows.
