ActiveVitis vinifera L. · Common grape vine
TIMOTHY SHEEHAN

The variety is of Spanish origin and is the result of a natural cross between the Albillo Mayor and Benedicto varieties. The name Cencibel is traditionally used in the La Mancha and Valdepeñas regions.
The plant belongs to early-ripening varieties. The clusters are characterized as compact and medium-sized; the berries have thick skin with a high tannin content. The variety prefers calcareous soils and adapts well to climatic conditions, showing resistance to a number of diseases, but is susceptible to rot.
Wines produced from this variety are distinguished by medium acidity, moderate tannins, and intense color. The aromatic profile includes notes of cherry, plum, blackberry, and dried fig, complemented by hints of vanilla, coconut, and spices when aged in oak.
