ActiveVitis vinifera L. · Common grape vine
TIMOTHY SHEEHAN
10 August 2026
The variety has late ripening; harvesting occurs from late September to the first half of October. The flower is hermaphroditic. The leaf is pentagonal, medium-sized, five-lobed, medium or deeply cleft, with medium density pubescence on the underside. Bunches are medium or small, conical, of medium density. Berries are medium-sized, round or slightly oval, white, and covered with a thick waxy bloom.
The vine is characterized by high productivity, drought tolerance, and heat resistance, and it tolerates temperature fluctuations well. The variety was traditionally grown as a bush vine but adapts to modern trellis systems. According to DNA analysis, it is presumed to be a natural hybrid of the Montonico pinto and Scacco varieties.
Wines from this variety possess high acidity and minerality. The aroma is dominated by citrus, green apples, anise, and white flowers; with aging, honey and creamy nuances may emerge.
