The variety originated from a natural cross of Hebén × Folha de Figueira. The plant forms medium to large bunches with rounded yellowish-green berries that have thin skin and juicy pulp.

MERSEGUERA possesses high drought tolerance and low requirements for soil composition, however, it is susceptible to powdery mildew. Wines based on this variety have a delicate taste with notes of citrus, apples, and almonds, and are often used in blends.
