Mészikadar is an independent wine grape variety, registered in the state registers of Hungary and having legal protection in the European Union. Genetically, the variety is not a variant of Kadarka, although it has kinship with a number of old varieties, including Csókaszőlő.
The variety is intended for winemaking and is officially permitted for use in blends for the production of Szekszárdi Bikavér wine, where its share in the composition of the base wine must not exceed 10% of the total volume.
The right is granted for a limited term: propagation of the variety requires a license from the rights holder.
